My sister lives in a more rural setting then I do, she has one rooster that she thinks is dying form Mareks she wants to bring him over to my land to have her DH cull him. I can keep him away from my chickens but should I be concerned at all for my flocks safety? Can they get it if he is brought onto my property? Also I wanted her to look at my chickens while she was over but should i have her change clothes or just her shoes and wash her hands? I know little about this decease and I want to be sure my flock is safe. I have some hens that were vaccinated for this but other hens that were not.

Yes, you want to be very careful if it truly is marek's. Dander is how the disease is spread, so if its on your clothes, shoes, hands, ect it can be spread. I would think it is best to change or at least keep your distance from them. Keep the sick bird at least 100 feet away from the others while he is at your place.

I'm really sorry to hear about the rooster. I hope both of your flocks remain healthy.

I live on 20 acres so she can go to an area that is quite a distance away from my flock and take care of the rooster. I'll have her look at my hens some other day. Thanks for the info!
