Hi everyone! My boyfriend and I are looking to buy a new vehicle and so far I have wayyyy too many questions.

I mainly need to narrow down the types of vehicles, problem is I know what I like and it's out of my budget. SO we have to figure on something a little cheaper. I need help figuring out what BRAND/MODEL to buy, I want something good and not a pile 'o junk.

Needs:

1. Live on a gnarly dirt road so probably not a car.
2. MUST get good gas mileage, I'm hoping for something above 22 mpg.
3. Must have either a lot of room inside or be a pickup, I have two giant mastiffs that will need to fit inside, plus I carry cages, chicken feed, hay etc.

I REALLY want a Tacoma, but I haven't found any in my price range, so we are looking at 4 Runners, Rav4's, and Rangers.

We originally thought about just buying a car (as we already own one truck that gets horrible gas mileage) but I just think a small truck would be more practical for us. I have only owned and driven trucks my whole life, but need to change to something that gets better gas mileage, plus my truck it on it's last leg.

We are going to buy from a dealer so we can finance it because we don't have the cash to purchase something outright from a private party. I think we are looking in the range of 10-15k.

Now the other problem I am running across is that there are no specials for used cars, and the specials (and 0% apr) on a new car makes them literally just a grand or two more for a brand new one... I dunno, just an idea.

I'd love ideas about different types of vehicles or maybe something I haven't thought of yet.

Soooooo... tell me your thoughts please!!!

What about a Chevy HHR? It's like an SUV and around here, for brand new, it's 12k. Just an idea, I have no experience with them. I am on a car search too, and the more I look and analyze, the more confused I get. One thing I've noticed is that it's hard to find a car that will fit all your needs. Good luck with your search.

I just love my HHR...I take with me 1 doberman and 2 labs, plus my kid...everyone fits fine...it gets 35mi to gallon...I haul feed and you can get 4 bales of hay length wise in it...the only thing is with all the criiters I do wish I had gotten leather interior...but with the fabric..it is easy to clean..drool and hair Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestion guys! I've never even heard of those before! Off to look...

Ok I just looked at them and it looks like they are still around $20,000 here. Oh and they look funny...

My mom calls mine a lil' hurst...(funeral car)....mine was a '09 with like 30,000mi. we paid like 16,000, it was a 1 owner car and I have never had a problem with it in 2yrs...lov it!!

How about a Ford Escape hybrid? To get in your price range it'd have to be used, but it gets good mileage, has a high stance, and reasonable cargo room....

Just a thought!
