Here, there, and everywhere...
I want to offer a knitting course for kids 10+ in my homeschooling group but I am lost as to what sounds right for length of time for meetings and how many.
I want us to make a simple dishcloth. I want to cover casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, and binding off.
I will be providing all needed materials.
Originally I was thinking about doing 4, one hour long classes. Now I think that might be too much because I'm planning to have the kids take their projects home during the week to do their "homework" of like 10-12 rows of knitting. Seems like after the long first and last class the other two might just be me adressing any problems and checking out their work. I was also thinking of filling the time in with some info about different yarn types and how yarn is made both in a factory and at home with fiber animals.

Any ideas or opinions?

I am thinking a max of 6 students and I will provide refreshments as well. The classes being from 3pm-4pm or 4pm-5pm (too close to dinner time?)...

I think 45 mins would be good. Plan the lesson for 45 minutes then you can have 15mins for questions and snacks at the end. Make sure you do a crochet lesson too.

I think the 45 minutes suggested is great.
I have recently began taking knitting lessons.
It's hard (lol)
Casting on was a challenge for me to grasp on the first lesson.
I think anything beyond 30 to 45 minutes would overwhelm them.
Hope this helps.
We have covered .. casting on .. knit stich, binding off, proper needle holding. I can see improvement. Gonna take time to get tention downpat.
I hope this helps.

I think for that age group do 2 classes that are 30 minutes a piece a week like on monday and thursday. I would do a scarf with a BIG needle, like a 11. (easier to hold) I say do a scarf cause after they finish it they can PROUDLY wear it. a simple garter stitch scarf is EASY for a 10 year old to start with. get the knit stich down. possibly toss in the purl stich with the scarf. then the next class project could be a matching hat that uses knit and purl. or perhaps a k1,p1 rib for the brim and a knit all the way to the length they want! I am making a simple smoke ring for myself with my loot from the MYB swap. all a smoke ring is is a tube that you use as a scarf (you could even make apanle of material and sew the ends together to make a tube!!!

Kids really liek doing stuff for themselves. or as a gift to soem one they LOVE!!! that is my recomendation a simple garter stich scarf hat of cowl.

I would LOVE to see some of the finished projects when the kids finish them!
