It's from Portland, OR to Salt Lake City, UT

Where do i get a box?

This is a 4 month old goose.

What do I put in the box?

On the phone now with tho post office.

What else do I need to know?

I want the goose. It's in Portland. Also I would love to find one near me. But have had no luck thus far. It would be in transit for less then 24 hours.

Sounds like a very bad idea, you'll be lucky if the goose survives the trip. Best bet would be to drive halfway and meet.

Sorry to be a downer, but it really isn't a good idea. Severe stress is the problem. USPS vehicles are not always climate controlled, and if they put it on a plane? Oh dear.

If it is not too hot, you can ship it in a "swan" box. It will be very large for just one goose, but I doubt if there is a smaller box that is not too small for a goose.

You will want to make sure the bird can get to you in 24 hours. You can ship the bird to a post office near you if your post office is not next day service. This is called the "hold for pick up" option.

If your post office is next day, make sure and call them to let them know you are expecting the bird and not to deliver, you will pick it up. Sometimes you can also pick up the bird at the distribution center. You can get your distribution center number from your local post office.

You can get boxes from these two places:

I would recommend putting in some cantalope quarters and maybe an ice pack for the trip during this time of year.

All lives require special handling and will be hand carried to the airplane and will not be left sitting out in the sun at the airport dock.

There is a risk too, that it is too hot and that the bird could get stressed, but if you are willing to take that risk, it is up to you.
