While mowing the yard yesterday I noticed a new plant blooming in the yard . I don't know why I've never noticed it before, except that usually DH does the weed eating and he just weed eats everything, weeds and plants. I don't have a pic right now, it's raining cats and dogs, but I'll try to get one tomorrow.

The plant looks very much like a clump of grass; like 12" tall blades of grass. At the top of each "blade" it splits and very pretty little violet flowers come out of the split. I've noticed that the blooms open in the morning and close by late afternoon.

Any ideas on just my description?

TIA

Good guess HLAC! I looked up images of spiderwort and that's exactly what it is. Thanks

Now all I have to do is keep DH from weedeating it to death (that is, when he can start weedeating again).

Have you figured out how to kill that obnoxious, invasive, make-you-want-to-give-up-gardening WEED yet, gonzo?

Actually yes I have.... I let the chickens get it... They love it!

LOL we don't have any of that (that I know of), but we have some wild strawberries that are surrounding the house and trying to come in the kitchen door.

we get those too.. haven't seen them here this year yet.. I'm sure the chooks will see them before I do!

Glad to help.

I have creeping charlie in the yard too. My boyfriend hates the stuff but my peeve weed is the poison hemlock that I still haven't banished from the property.
