Bought this tonight from a guy who used it to house a handful of hens. It's made from pallets and is pretty sturdy, but clearly needs modifications to be a good coop. It's only got one door on it, and he has chicken wire on the floor which I am not sure I want to keep or not? While it would be good for predators I am wondering about it cutting chicken feet?

Exterior measurements are as follws:
103" Long
43 1/2" Wide
46" High

What I would like to do most is to build a coop to mend together with this one, using this piece as the run. However, it's already quite long so I am not sure how well this will work for me. I could build off to the side of this, and kind of wrap around the back. To put the two together I would use 4 latches so I could easily separate at a later date if needed. I want to avoid building one inside of this current coop to keep from using up the run space, which I find to be perfect for a few birds. Plus, I don't really want to dismantle any of this if I don't have to, other than removing the shelf and ladder and one section of wire to make a door, which I have highlighted in blue. I also plan to add a couple of roosting spots in the run, and maybe shelter the top of it but not sure yet.

I haven't had a lot of time to think of what I want/need to do other than that, and I just installed sketchup hoping to maybe draw it out a few times and see what may or may not work. So far I'm lost so I am reading tutorials for the program lol.

Any thing you see that you would add, or you think I may need to know or do, feel free to comment in here. All help is appreciated.

That enclosure has enough room for one large fowl bird, so it doesn't have much potential as a coop or a run if you are wanting to keep more than one. How many birds do you have or want to house?

I have a blue sumatra rooster, blue sumatra hen and a white rock hen. I know every one has different ideas as to what is enough birds but the 4x8 coop and run I posted a while back folks were saying 6 or so birds would be fine. Looking around on some of the coops on here this is much larger than some and those folks have a half a dozen birds. II should also mention I free range my birds and they would only be confined during bad weather, or on occasions where I might have many guests over for a birthday party or something.

edit-Ignore the small section with the shelf that the previous owner was using as the coop portion.

If your only putting 3 birds I think it would be fine, I would use the coop part boxing it in and cutting a chicken door into the run, the access door in the back will be enough to reach in and get the eggs, maybe some metal roofing on the run and upgrade to hardware cloth on the sides, looks like a simple project all and all.
