I am completely new to chickens and I do not have much space or money to spend on them. I was thinking about getting two pullets considering I do not have much interest in raising chicks, but I did not know if I would be Ok having just two. Also please post addvice and the basic nescities of owning chickens, that would be a great help.
Thank You!!!!

from S. Florida. They say they need at least 2. Chickens are flock animals, so I think you'd be safe there with two pullets. Best of luck going chicken crazy!!

from Washington,

Two pullets are OK, but three would be better. If something happened to one there would be two left. There's lots of good advice here on BYC.
Good luck.

I will have to see what I can do. Also how big would you think the coop would need to be? Sorry I have a lot of questions

i just convinced my sister to get 2 laying hens and she too has a problem with space. she went wal mart and bought a plastic dog house and cut squares in the sides for ventilation. the top comes off easy so she can lift it to get eggs. for the run part she used chicken wire and tin for the roof. the run is as wide and long as a sheet of tin.

I have to build it myself so this will be interesting:p I may just get two pullets and slowly build up my flock. My family is not so excited about the idea yet, but they agreed so I figure I can get a few more down the road and slowly introduce more over time. Like I said I do not have much space or money, so as long as i am fine with two I will stick to that first. Thank you very much for your advice. also what supplies are necessary to start? Thank you

I totally agree. I have gotten so much advice from this site it is addictive. When I want to know something I come here. Well, I'm always here. I check my email and do my banking when it's time but the rest of the time, i'm here looking for informaiton. The chat room is good to. You can get immediate answers there if somebody is there that can help you.

Everyone here is so nice and helpful. Its like one big family.

Welcome, i'm sure we will see more of you.

I would get 3 also and for the same reason. Sometimes chicks just die for no apparant reason.
