OK my nearly one year old BO hen is VERY broody, she started being broody about a week ago, but stopped after a few days, this week she has been steady at it, I havent even seen her move to eat or drink (though I am sure she is)

I am being given some eggs for her to hatch, and I am wondering about the broody hen set up. I am thinking to put her in the house or coop to be (camper) in a extra large dog crate on aspen or pine shavings with a food and water source. Is that all I need to do? I dont have room in their current coop to house her and her eggs while brooding them.

Any hints, tips, advice, and especially photos of broody set ups would be GREATLY appreciated!!

It sounds like you've got it covered. They like it a little dark so keep her out of the sunlight and maybe throw a old blanket over half the dog crate. Let her out daily to poo and make sure she makes it back and no other hens mess with her nest in the process. She won't eat much through the process, but don't be alarmed at the monster craps she will produce. Charge up the camera batteries and you're set.

Thank you so much, I cant wait to get them up and "running" I think I am going to house her in the camper that we have been converting to the coop while she is broody that way she can still hear and be near the other hens and not near the constant peeping of our 10 chicks we have in the brooder!
