I heard peeping outside, and went out to find a chick in the underneath run of my elevated coop - I hadn't moved hens yet, I didn't think they were so close to hatching! But I think what happened was mom kicked her out of the nest box or something - I found a different hen in her box, and her outside running around...I move her box and her into the "chick cage" and put the chick under her and she just kept pecking at baby, so I rescued baby now laying in my robe...I don't really want inside babies, I was just letting hens hatch...now I have 2 more hens that aren't as far along with eggs, but are very broody...would I be successful sneaking baby under one of them? I was debating if I could just give this mom's eggs to the others because she can't be hatching them if she is going to peck them! Basically -- unsure what to do with this chick and with all the other eggs...thoughts?

Additional question: my heat lamp light broke, I have to leave for a bit this evening, can I use a normal heating pad to keep baby warm for a bit?

Well -- ended up moving the other girls to kennels, and put the chick and eggs under the one who has actually been sittting the longest -- chick crawled under her and she didn't fuss, they have been swapping nests and eggs for a while so who knows which started with which! I plan to just keep an eye on all of them I guess?
