Okay so my chickens are about 5 months old and just started laying but my Rhode Island reds and only that breed keep dying . 5/10 have died in the past 3 days but I know when there about to die like they act tired and barley move I can't scare them to move or try to push them to move also the comb turns like a purple color or I guess faded out red and I really want to know why for all of this

Maybe worms. Try adding some food grade DE to their diet (not the swimming pool DE). You can find DE generally at your feed store. If it is worms, the DE could help.

Check with tests done by reputable vets. Conclusion: DE does not, can not kill internal parasites. Some believe that it kills by dehydration of the parasites. If that could happen, it would also dehydrate the internal organs of the chicken thus doing great harm. It does no harm so therefore it does not dehydrate parasites... It simply absorbs water in gullet that passes on through the body in the usual poop. It is helpful in ridding external parasites.

oops...

What is the DE used for and how do you use it?

Chickens that have been given food grade DE have shown to have increased calcium levels and strong bones. Because of its absorption ability it will help reduce odor when scattered in the coop and pen. It can kill some insects by absorption if a lot is put on them.

Do I sprinkle the DE on their food and also in the coop?

I don't.... I put some in with my crushed oyster shells..both will give layers extra calcium.
