Hey guys, have lost two of my chickens over the last couple of weeks.

I have a flock of about 25 chickens and they had all been doing fine, a couple of weeks ago, one of my isa's was very lethargic and appeared almost drunk when she tried to walk, that was about lunchtime and by the next morning she was dead, she appeared fine in the morning and came charging out of the shed as normal when I opened it.

The was about a week or two ago, then today one of the little pekins was flapping around on the floor, so I went over to see what was going on, it appears that she can't walk, I have been out to check and she is going down hill really fast, found her with her head in the water drowning last time I went out, she is not looking good and here comb is very pale and dry......too be honest she looks like she will be dead within the next hour or so.

I have been round checking out the droppings, but too be honest they roam all over my land and I haven't been able to find anything wrong.
It is very fast, whatever it is, they are eating and running around one day, then the next they are lethargic, appear drunk or can't walk and then dead, all in the course of one afternoon.

I really don't want to loose my whole flock......any ideas

I have a range of ages from chicks, pullets to hens......the two that have died are hens, about 12-18 months old

Cheers

Well, that was fast......didn't even get a chance for anyone to answer, she is dead.

I am starting to think possibly snake bite, but really don't have any idea, will monitor the rest of the flock and see what goes, but they are all out there chooking away as chooks do, eating drinking etc.

Did you check for bite wounds?

Could they have gotten into any rotten food? Any blood in the stools? Have you wormed them lately?

Have you introduced your chickens to new ones?? I did and one chicken got my flock sick. Had to isolate and treat two with antibiotics, two have died including my prized polish rooster. I went ahead and wormed them and added electrolytes and vitamins to their water. I am waiting it out hoping for the best. I had early signs they were lethargic and did not eat well. So I would isolate them and treat. Good Luck!!
