Yesterday I put out some new wheat seeds and some 13-13-13 on my rye grass patches and along with the wheat seeds. I figured it was gonna rain today and dissolve the 13 13 13 before I let my birds range. Well it didn't rain. I was on the phone and while I was checking for eggs I turned my younger birds loose to free range! Totally forgot about the wheat and 13 13 13 after about ten min I realized it and ran then back into the coop. I'm hoping they at none to very little of the fertilizer. They had plenty of food, rye grass and wheat seeds to eat so I'm hoping they over looked the fertilizer! I gave them some bread in little pieces to help and they have fresh water! And suggestions? I tried to call my vet but he's in surgery and I'm waiting for a call back!

OK, I have no experience with this, so my answer is a guess. I'd think that they might eat a little bit of it just because chickens peck at and explore everything by pecking. However, I'd think that they would figure out pretty quickly that it's not food/yucky and stop eating it at that point. I'd hope so, anyway. I'd just keep the contained until you water or it rains and the fertilizer has melted and soaked in. Keep an eye on them and their poop for a couple of days, too. Hopefully they'll be just fine.

Chickens do not have stomachs to process stuff with I am sure they will be fine. Offer them plenty of fresh water to flush there system out. and keep a good eye on them . I like to think of birds as having an iron stomach. For example I had a bird run to my bucket of Roccal D plus and start drinking it as I was cleaning and disinfecting with it. That bird was Fine never even got sick.

Thanks, its seems that they're ok. The must not have eaten any. The vet called me back yesterday and said that they prob wouldn't have eaten much or any at all being they had plenty of feed, wheat, and rye grass to eat. Thanks for the response!
