Help. My mallard disappeared.

I have a mated pair of mallards that have been together for 2 years. I rescued them as 2 month olds from a person who bred them to train hunting dogs. The female has disappeared and must have slipped out the gate when I fed them earlier. It is bitterly cold here. All lakes frozen. Do you think she may come back to see her mate or is she gone? Any chance she will survive? Her mate is now alone with just chickens across the way to look at and very fretful.

We saw her at dusk on the woods an hour ago 20 yards from her mate's pen but when we tried to herd her there (we got her halfway) she was spooked by a stump in the yard and flew off. I been out several times with a flashlight but can't see her. Her drake was calling for her but has stopped now. I do hope she. makes it through the night and can fly back to her mate.

Hi Folks,
No sign of Belle since last Friday. I am in the process of getting a 1 year old golden cascade duck so Bill, my mallard, will not be so lonely with only the chickens to stare at across the way.
