I have had many caged pet birds over the years, who have laid eggs but nothing has ever hatched.
what do i do now? all i have been doing is just looking in to see if its alive. its not really a nest box. just a little box that hangs on the inside of the cage. in fact it came with the cage. go figure.
is it really true that if you touch the eggs or the baby the mom will not go near it again?

No i don't think that is true. But if mama is taking care of it, you might want to be hands off until she has had more time to bond.

Agreed. We just had our parakeet, Carla, and her mate, Stormy, hatch two babies, except in our case we were expecting it. I handled both of them a few times and Carla didn't abandon them. It's untrue that they will abandon their chicks if you touch them. Other animals, such as some mammals, will do so, but not many birds.

Congrats! It's so fun to watch as the mother feeds the chicks and cares for them.

And when they're a little older, maybe at least a week, when you can handle them some more, it's so fun to hold them. I never knew 3-4 week old baby parakeets could crawl so fast!
