Why do you think she is egg bound? It's my first year having ducks, she is eating and drinking and pooping, currently she is in a warm bath! Help!
Can you go to a 24 hour Walmart and get some calcium citrate? She will not walk and lays every day but boyfriend noticed hasn't laid in 4 days and is kind of lethargic
Sorry, but eggbound isn’t broody. My Rouen just laid eggs about a month ago. One's hatching as we speak. I can give you a few tips from what I've learned:
1. Even if you have a very sweet duck, she will probably get super protective over her eggs, and stand and hiss at you. It's most likely temporary. Try not to get close enough to her for her to hiss, unless you have to, because she may accidently crush her eggs.
2. If you're worried about her not eating and drinking as much, put food and water within beak reach (watch your fingers). We did this for my duck and she had more time to rest, and still gets pleanty to eat.
3. When your eggs start hatching, don't help them get out. The hatchlings need to get used to air and breathing, so it could take 24h for them to hatch. If you take them it too soon, is could hurt them because they're still using something in the eggs.
Hope this helps![]()
Thank you, I will do that! Can you go to a 24 hour Walmart and get some calcium citrate?
Oh, ok. Sorry, I still don't know much about ducks and chickens yet. I thought it meant laying on eggs.Mochaduck, I think you may be thinking the duck is going broody. She is egg bound, meaning an egg is stuck inside of her.
I'm not sure my boyfriend is the one who found her in the coupe, I was at work, he researched it and told me by her signs he thought it was thatAre you positive she is egg bound? It is uncommon for an egg bound bird to be pooping normally.
