Hello. I'm a new member however have scoured over other people's posts for some time.

I bought 3 australorp hens (I presume hens) almost a week ago now that are aged 9-14 weeks. They have settled in ok however I noticed yesterday the 14 week old girl has had a runny nose. It appears to be sticky in substance, but clear. She seems fine, eating drinking scratching and digging etc. pooh seemed a little runnier today than previously noted. Normal color. Also she is sneezing and the 9 wk old is sneezing also.

I have rattled my brain trying to figure out what it could be but I am honestly so lost. I don't know what to treat her for... I can't separate them because I have nowhere to confine her to! They've been together the full week so I am presuming if it's an illness they will all have it by now.

They are in an enclosed coop, and inside their coop they have a house they roost in and I lock it after they put themselves to bed and unlock it at 7am to come out whenever they wish (usually when I wake them).

Any suggestions? What can I do to get them healthy? I've tried contacting the breeder but she won't reply to me :(

I feed them pallets (the ones you give before the layer pallets) and j made up a mash of brown rice, a can of tuna in brine, carrots peas and corn, and cabbage as well.

They seem to really like that. They eat this at the end of the day and eat their normal food through the day.

Don't know what j can do to help them. They are pets for us and not for anything else so I really don't want to lose any :(

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have a couple of sneezers there. It maybe some kind of respiratory infection but please do post in the emergencies injuries disease section. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures
I'm sure the experts over there will be able to help you.

Wishing you the very best of luck hope you get the answers you need.

What type of shavings, bedding, do you use inside the coop - maybe the material is very dusty or gives off fumes - the girls are sensitive too. Over here, we call the place they sleep and roost in the COOP. Usually it has an attached outdoor area - we call the RUN. Do they seem to have runny noses when they are outside, or just inside the coop?

Since the seller won't reply to you - have to wonder if she knew they had an issue (maybe all hers do) and didn't want to mention it. When you post on the ER thread please give full details. Welcome to Backyard chickens. I hope their issues resolves quickly.
