All the cases I have seen while researching of Bumble foot look way worse and my Roo doesnt have a black scab. He started limping 3 days ago so I put him in a large dog cage..did my research inspected the foot and it does look swollen and there is a callous circle. In the picture the small red mark is where I started to try to pull it off to see if puss would come out. I have been doing epsom salt n Betadine soaks and putting a bandage on the foot. He is also on 1/4 cc of penicillian. Today I attempted to cut around that callous piece of skin and it just bled a lot I pushed on it and no puss came out. Could someone please tell me if I am even dealing with Bumble foot or if he just has a sprain from jumping off his roost. Yesterday I cut around that callous and peeled off a layer of skin...I tried to squeeze puss out but nothing came out..now he has more of a boo-boo from me! Ugg! So soaking x-tra long 2xs a day and Neosporin ..sending hubby to get Prep. H any suggestions? I am freaking out because I can't find anyone with pictures that looks like his

It does look like bumblefoot to me, but maybe it is not ready for the surgery yet. Sometimes you won't get puss or a puss plug out with surgery. Since you are doing the penicillin injections you may not need to do it. Just watch it after you finish the penicillin to see if it shrinks down. If not try the surgery again. One thing I learned from people on BYC is that sometimes you have to squeeze, reposition, and sqeeze some more (like gettin all of the toothpaste out of the tube) to get the plug out. Sometimes it just isn't there.

Why do you think it looks like Bumble foot? That very odd because I posted on facebook to another chicken site hoping to get faster replies and everyone seems to think it is not Bumblefoot...have you ever seen it at the start?

The swollen are looks to be part of the foot that hits the ground when she walks. Bumblefoot is a staph infection of the foot pad from a tiny nick or scratch from a sharp object. It looks puffy and soft like the beginning of an abcess which it what bumblefoot is. It just doesn't have the black spot yet. If the swollen area is hard, it probably isn't BF.

The swollen area is very hard......??????? I never looked at his foot before this happened so I have no idea if it was like this before the limping.

Another thing prior to this him and 5 of his siblings were roosting together on top of a home made nesting box...they started doing this when the were little and could fit lol but then they continued to do it ...so I am wondering if its the way he had been perching. I since have blocked that off and added an extra roosting branch that they are now forced to perch on.
