Rhinelander WI.
I have had quite the winter with a few owls taking up their dining room in my chicken coop. lost chickens and ducks.
I am looking to buy more layers and maybe a few ducks, rouen and pekin only..please send me a message if you have any suggested sites for distributers or sellers via byc.
Our feed store has prices going up so high we dont want to get our meat birds from them anymore either. any and all suggestions appreciated.

! Great to have you with us! Sorry you lost your flock over the winter. You might check out the Breeders & Hatcheries thread below:

And find WI thread in the link below - maybe a local can hook you up with a supplier. Good luck and have fun!

Use redsoxs links - they will provide a great place to start. Welcome to BYC.

You're going to need tight fencing (hardware cloth not chicken wire) and a top on your run to keep owls away. Otherwise they will keep coming back to where they know the pickings are easy and delicious.

We actually closed the coop doors before sunset for over a month. That made the owls go elsewhere. And I called the DNR to come and they caught 2. So far no owls in the area. With how large our pen is the DNR comes monthly to check the area. They even saved 2 woodpeckers that had been harmed. But one is still a pest and huge. ;-). We leave our new 10ft walls up and top open. A few of our ducks like to fly around the yard and go to the lake close by. Usually bringing friends home that eat and leave. Apparently I get to feed all the wild ducks in the area too. My kids enjoy it. The chickens like the ducks too. And our rooster is the sweetest thing g ever. Any hurt bird he protects. Even the dead ones until I see it and can clear out the body.

Hello from the other end of WI! Have you looked at craigslist? I have seen plenty of Silkies and Rouens (you mentioned those and something else?) listed under farm and garden. If you search on those breeds you might find something nearby. If you're able to travel you would definitely find those in SE WI. Someone between Madison and Milwaukee recently advertised that they were desparate to sell a small flock of Silkie x. Good luck!
