Hi Everyone! So I need a little bit of help. I am expecting my new chicks to arrive at the post office this week and I am in a fix. I live in a fairly isolated mountain community and we don't have a feed store here. Today I sent my husband down to the closest one (50 miles away) to get chick feed, shavings, etc. When he got down there he found there wasn't any chick starter at all! Now I have to shoot down to the other feed store in the opposite direction in the morning. I'm worried that my chicks might arrive tomorrow around 7:30am and I won't have anything to feed them! The feed store doesn't open until 9 and it's 50 miles away. Does anyone know if I can feed them a mash or have a simple recipe to hold them over until I can get the feed I need? Any help would be so appreciated! Thanks!

They'll be fine if you don't feed them until the afternoon. They don't "need" any feed the first day, as they are still living off the egg they hatched from. Just dip their beaks in the water and they'll drink. In the afternoon, you can introduce the feed.

You can also feed them All Flock or Flock Raiser crumbles if for some reason, the feed store is out of Starter. Also, Grower crumble, if it is 18%-20% protein can also be fed. Not a problem.
