Hi. I had a hen go broody so I let her sit on a few eggs in the spring. Two hatched, and both chicks were yellow at hatching. Now at about 10-11 weeks old they are white, one has a spek of black on a wing. But, here's the confusing part. The egg for one chick was most definitely from my black australorp, and the only rooster is a barred rock. The other chick is either the BA hen or slight chance is was RIR (this shell was quite crushed). So I was expecting chicks to hatch out black ilke the parents were as chicks and never thought they would turn out to be white. Will some color still develop as they are only nearing 3 months old? No one has been able to answer locally. Hoping with the vast experience on this site someone has seen this before. Its not a real big deal, they are of course just backyard pets, but its so curious to me. Thanks for any replies

If the only rooster is a barred rock, I'll be willing to bet that those whites are hiding some barring as all offspring should be barred. When you have black, you have a chance of getting white from a mixed breeding. I'm really surprised you have TWO whites but I'm no expert.
