Hi folks. I will be really quick. After some research I believe my RIR needs multi vitamins for treatment of a problem that seems like crooked neck (she walks backwards with head tucked and is generally not herself). Also my other sick bird, a leghorn, may be needing them too (she is listless and closes her eyes, doesnt eat). Anyways, I found out I should try vitamins now. I will start a better diet (less junk food, more pellets/crumbles). But firstly I want to boost them up now. They won't drink vitamin treated water, they will simply go get a drink somewhere else ( 2 giant backyards with lots of water). My idea for today is to roll a couple meal worms in the vitamin powder and give them the mealworms 2-3 times a day for 2 days just to get the deficiency treament quick started. My poor 2 hens have been sick and I finally figured it out. The other 2 will also need a better diet. They all do.

We trick out cats the same way by putting medicine in a snack.

Q: Can I safely give my hens vitamins by coating mealworms in "Rooster Booster" water soluable vitamin/electrolyte powder? Is there a danger in giving too much? Thanks.

For a quick vitamin fix. Polyvisol without iron, just a drop in the mouth perhaps 2 times a day. The bottle comes with a dropper.
Or take the vitamin powder, mix it with the feed, wet the feed with water so it is like grout and stir it up well.

Yes, there is always a danger with too many vitamins. Most are poisonous in too high of concentrations. Too much of a good thing is a bad thing.
Like junk food.
Cut out anything except their chicken feed. If you read the label, it probably says something to the effect. "Feed as the sole ration for chickens, no other supplement is necessary." And then follow the instructions.

Alright thanks. FYI so far today I have changed ALL the water sources (including the neighbor's yard) to new, clean water feeders with the directed amount of rooster booster vitamin solution. I also today did give each bird 3-4 superworms that i first rolled/drenched in a water-vitamin paste. I have a small 4-bird flock that has been eating whatever they want (mostly corn, apples, millet seed, scratch mix, tuna, lettuce, sunflower seeds) and they have ignored the layer crumbles (which has vitamins). I will stop giving the snacks and give only the layer crumbles so they can get the vitamins that are in the crumbles, my fault. I know it needs to be done.

2 days ago one of my birds got pecked on her head and comb so hard that we had to treat her bleeding comb and head wound. We stopped the bleeding and have been quaranting her from the mean hen. But now she does a backwards walking thing that looks like she has a neurological problem. Its frightening to watch. Poor little girl. My research today on this condition said the treatment is vitamins A, B1, and electrolytes.

Coincidentally my leghorn has been generally listless and sitting all day without an apetite, her eyes closed a lot. Research here said this can also be a symptom of low vitamins. Thats why I wanted to get them boosted today and then get them on a healthy diet asap. THANKS TO THE USERS OF THIS BOARD.
