I fear I am not meant to be a chicken mom. I have my first flock and they are 21 weeks. We just got our first eggs this week.

When they were 2 weeks old I lost power during a snow storm while they were in the brooder. They all ended up with respiratory illness.

We just fought coccidia last month and I lost 1 girl.

This morning I went to check on the around 10am and one of our girls was laying in the bottom of the coop. I thought she was dead. Her head was completely tucked underneath her. She didn’t roost last night. She seemed a little slow yesterday.

We scooped her out of the coop. She couldn’t stand and didn’t have any control of her body. She kept flapping and her neck kept twisting all sort of weird ways.

I’m hoping it wasn’t just a fluke, she was ill, and she died.

Some people are saying mareks. What are your thoughts? I’m so worried about the rest of my flock.

I just feel like I’m having such bad luck and I was so excited for this new chapter of life 😞

If she just died this morning and you still have the body, wrap it up well and put it in the fridge (not freezer) and look up where to send the body locally that can do a necropsy and test for Marek's.
Ugh we have already buried her. I guess if we have another one pass away I can do that. I’m at such a loss.
