Help! New chicken owner

Can someone advise me please? I am a new chicken owner and just got my flock 2 weeks ago. I noticed that one of my silkie girls has a lump on her beak and the others don't. It doesn't seem to bother her, but worried about it.

That's her comb. Totally normal. Do you have full body pictures? If she is the only one with a large comb, she might be a cockerel. Welcome to BYC!

Thank you for your reply. I have 4 silkies, she is the only one with this. I brought them together 2 weeks ago. I was told they were 28 weeks old then. So she could be a he? This one is larger than my other black one and she has more normal feathers than fluff at the tips of her wings. I will upload a full body picture tomorrow, as they have gone to sleep

Likely not. But yeah, she is normal. Are any of them laying for you? Also, where are you in the world? I am in CA so it is currently winter here. Chickens in general don't tend to lay through winter and Silkies seem to take a while to get into laying. I am wondering if maybe she is just about to start. When pullets get ready to lay, their combs tend to get larger and they tend to start squatting, among many other signs.

One has laid 5 eggs this week, but the others haven't. I also have a Pekin frizzle and a polish in the same flock from the same breeder.

I have always wanted to keep chickens, really enjoying them. I am just get worried about them after reading some of the problems they can get. One was sneezing when I brought them home, now 3 are sneezing. I did contact the seller, who said it could have been the stress of the move that has caused it or a cold. She gave me some medicine to put in their water. I don't know what it is. Is there any good books I can purchase to help me identify health issues etc?

BYC is the best book ever. Trust me. If you post in the ER section, there will be plenty of "experts" to help you. I would listen to folks like Eggcessive, Wyorp Rock, azygous, and dawg53. I have learned SO much from reading and posting threads. There's a LOT that goes into chicken keeping and I am so glad I got chickens! But yes, if you are going to post a thread in the ER forum, I recommend posting pictures as well. Pictures help a lot.

Post pictures of the medication she gave you in your thread as well.
