Hello!

I purchased a new flock of birds in July, I have 1 Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (just over a year old) and 4 Rhode Island Reds. The Reds should start hatching anyday, one of them just started squatting!! Anyway, Our BLRW, Stella, laid an egg after we had her for only 2 days! We were so excited for our first egg, but unfortunately, my egg carton still has one egg in it!

We think that she may be molting as she seems to be losing some feathers. I'm sure the move to her new home was stressful, but is it normal to take 5 weeks to lay the next? There was a rooster in her old home, would that change things? She was a gift from the lady who we bought the Rhode Islands from and she is so pretty, I just want her to start laying eggs again!

Thanks in advance for input!!

Sounds pretty normal to me. It's not uncommon for them to stop laying for several weeks after a move. And now it's just about molting season. Some girls start to lay again after they molt. Some won't lay again until spring is on the way. Your Reds. being young, should lay right through the fall and winter.
