I just picked up my six mallard duckling from the post office. I noticed the box was cold. I brought it home opened it and one of the ducklings was just lying there. I put it under the brooder lamp with a soft wool sock around it. Ive tried placing his beak in water with sugar to promote drinking but no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ASAP...... TOM

Have you posted on the "emergencies, diseases, injuries, cures ," thread? Shipping can really do a number on babies especially during hot weather. He may need a little partition to keep others from bothering or trampling on him. You might try dipping your finger in sugar t water and putting that in his mouth. I think the sock may make him overheat.

Thank you but it was too late. The little duck died. Another one is very weak and is having difficulty walking . I have been doing just what you suggested and giving the this duck a little sugar water every half hour, He has been drinking it and just a few moments ago drank out of his dish of water, but still has a very hard time walking. A piece of tape to designate him as a drake wrapped around his back talon. I removed it. Hopefully that will help him walkbetter I will call BYC duck expert. Thank you sincerely. Thomas
