Does anyone know what could be causing this??
Several weeks ago I noticed that my 6-year-old bourbon red turkey hen's wings were drooping. I thought that she was just hot, because we were having some unusually hot days. But then I picked her up and she didn't weigh much.
I wormed her with Rooster Booster Multi-Wormer. It has Hygromycin B and Bacitracin Methylene Disalicylate as the main ingredients, plus a host of vitamins. It is supposed to deal with large roundworms, cecal worms, and capillary worms. But I don't know if I got enough in her. It is in pellet form. The canister only tells you how to treat 50 pounds of feed. So I put three pellets in her food every day for 3 days. I assume she ate it, because the pellets were gone, but we do have rats, so they might have gotten it. So then I put three pellets down her throat for three days. A few days later, I put Wazine in her water bowl, because I read in my Turkey book that roundworms could cause the wings to droop and the bird to be unthrifty.
I picked her up today and there in virtually NO meat on her breastbone.
Could she have cancer somewhere?? I've heard of "wasting disease". Does anyone know about that?? What causes it and what can be done about it?
My Rosie (short for Rosebud) is so sweet. I feel like I've truly failed her when she needed me most. I should have paid attention to her much sooner, but my life is crazy right now with trying to take care of my 81-year-old mother with Alzheimer's. I cannot leave Mom alone to spend time with my birds. My DH feeds, but doesn't pay much attention to how the birds are actually doing. So if anyone can tell me something that will save Rosie's life, I will be FOREVER grateful.
Oh! I've been giving her a dropper full or two of Poly-visol every other day for several days.
She hasn't laid a single egg this season, but I thought that perhaps that was because of her age.
I soooooooooooo hope somebody knows what is going on. I appreciate ANY help anyone can give me.
Hope you all have a GREAT DAY!!
