Hello all,

I am very new to raising Chickens, in fact didn't want to hatch any but one found a three eggs out side the nesting box. Didn't know how long the hand been in a make shift nest so I took them in and found they had started to develop. the oldest one stopped moving so I decided to open the top and I saw it was a very white membrane and it could not move, it then started to move. it has not been a full day and I began to pull back more shell and I see there are still a lot of veins. not sure if this egg is fully formed. don't know how long is too long to wait to open the membrane sack? Please any advice would help.

Well if it was incubated that entire time then it would hopefully be fully developed. This is a tough one to hatch though. Because of the amount of blood vessels left it could be difficult to hatch without killing the chick. Not sure if I am looking at the egg right, but it kind of looks like the face in the top left. Try carefully opening a small area of the membrane near the beak so it can get air and then allow it to sit in the bator for a bit. The blood vessels need to clot off and dry up a bit. If you try to fully hatch that chick now I think it will probably end up bleeding out. You also need to make sure that that membrane does not completely dry out or it will be difficult for that chick to get out. You can try to moisten it with warm water and a Q tip or bacitracin which will keep it moist longer.

I hate to say it but this little chick has quite a battle ahead. Good luck.
