My 10 week old silkie ripped it's toenail off somehow in looking the foot has like "white scale looking foot" sorry for bad description but hernormally all black foot has white on it???? I removed her she now is in the basement alone in a cat carrier to heel as for that small of an injury it sure was bleeding. Also I put a small amount bag balm on it and was hoping that was alright to do after all I use it on my kids all the time??? Thanks for any advise. I now found white clumps in her puff on her head and patches on her feather about every inch or so up some of her feathers.

Birds bleed ALOT so it's a good idea to have styptic powder on hand; you can also use flour to staunch the bleeding in an emergency. An antibiotic ointment would probably be a good idea once the bleeding is stopped. I'm sure you'll get other advice here too . . . some pix might help if what I've suggested doesn't seem to cover the injury you're seeing. Good luck with your chicky - I'm sure she'll be fine.

Saw your edit - are you thinking you're seeing mite eggs? You could search mites for descriptions and treatments if that's what you think she's got. How's her toe?

It could be scally leg mites They make the scales on the chickens legs raise up a bit and their legs go a white grey colour and if it gets bad their toenails can drop off.

Post a picture, I'm sure someone will know for sure.

I gave her a bath last night and kept her inside and this morning no white stuff and she walking around peeping again!! I also went out and checked the others and they have no sign of white on them at all. So should I treat them anyway or keep an eye on them?? Also is it ok to use feline pine cat litter in there coop this chicken gets alot of dust cacked to her from the pine that could be agrivating her?? I do think she has leg mites so I am putting bag balm on them twice a day.
