Help please, I was told I bought two maran pullets, they are about 4 months old and its obvious I do not have two maran pullets, but my question is do I have a maran pullet and a rooster or maran pullet and a barred rock pullet? Thanks!

It looks like a pair, they could be either marans or poor quality barred rocks. The rooster looks more fluffy like a maran and the pullet looks more rock like to me because the closer feathering.

The determining question-what is the leg color? Marans will have white legs, rocks will have yellow legs.

To my unexperienced eye, the one in back would be a roo. The tail feathers, cone, and waddle, "is this the correct phrase?" are alot more pronounced, than the pullet in front.

Okay what is the hens leg color? The boy is a maran.

They are almost 4 months old, I got them at 1.5 months and they looked the same, other than the one was larger than the other. Here is a better picture of the females legs. The females legs are more yellow than the other bird. They will be roosting shortly I can get more photos if needed. Sounds like most think the one in question is for sure a male, not a barred rock...bummer, was hoping for hens only!

Then the girl is a rock and the boy is a maran...wow I am really out of luck! All I wanted were those chocolate brown eggs. *sigh*
