I am writing for my husband, he has the chickens in our family. I lean more towards Geese :)

Anyway, about a month or so ago, one of his chickens decided she was going to hatch some eggs and has been in the nest box every since. We do not have a rooster, so her efforts didn't pay off for her.

So...now she wants to come down out of the box and the others won't let her, they peck on her and run back inside the "house" and nest box. I don't know what to do, but I am really worried about her since our temperatures have been close and some days over 100 degrees.

My husband does stay in there when he feeds so that she can eat and then gives her extra in her nest box. The poor thing is quite scraggly looking :{

Does anyone have any advise as to what to do so that she will be accepted within the group again? We have a total of 7 chickens.

Thank you for your help!

Because of their chang in behavior, broody hens are sometimes regarded as 'strangers' by the rest of the flock. She will have to win back her position in the pecking order. Make sure that she gets to eat and drink, is not being seriously injured, and she will work things out. Chciken society is of the 'mean girl' order.
