I don't think the plastic waterers are rated for use on a heated base.

OH oh, okay. I will certainly invest in the metal waterer.

Insulation is something I thought of... the only problem I have regarding that... is mice. I do have a tiny mouse problem, so I constantly have to hit the coop with various mouse eliminators...

I definitely plan to add some corn to their diet, as well as dried mealworms and the like... so hopefully that will help them hold some body heat as well.

Have I said how much Backyard Chickens forum has helped me? Just reading in the shadows, I have learned so much from you guys. Thank-you all!!!
