Hi guys ,

Have just take over care of three hens from a friend who is having to let their flock go.

One of them came with a very red and raw bottom and just noticed some white bits (see photo)

Previously we had only ever had one old hen who we also inherited and never had an issue that prompted us to seek advice.

Our Friend said that one of the old flock who went to market was a plucker.

Have had the girls 4 days now and redness hasn't eased.

Wondered if anyone had any advice on TLC I could provide?

Thank you !

She should grow her feathers back during the fall molt. The skin being red is normal. The white I would assume is poop or scabs from the picking. Not much you can do, she should look better in a few months as long as there's no more picking.

Thanks for your response !

Caught her reaching around earlier but appears more pink today , fingers crossed !

X2 I agree with @oldhenlikesdogs

Keep a watch on her bum - if you notice any flock members picking at her, apply a little Blu Kote to hide the redness.

Maybe spray something like blu-kote on her bottom. I had one male that had a red bottom and no tail feathers. I sprayed some blu-kote on him and his rump improved and he grew his tail feathers back in.
