I have a 10 x 10 shed that I made into a coop. I just got 5 RIR's that are about to lay. One sounds like she has a head cold, gurgling, sneezing. I've tried to contact vets around here - but no one really sees chickens. I have her outside now in a "basket type" with some pine shavings in it for the fresh air. I put ACV in the water with also some electrolytes (sp?) also. I think the coop is too dusty. I have 2 - windows that are 1 x 2 across from each. I also have a cut out on the front door that's about 2 x 3. I open the doors in the evening to help "air out". I also have the pop door open during the day. I'm at a loss. Please help.

I would start her on Tylan injectable--pick it up at TSC. Buy a small syringe and give her 1 cc in the nape of the neck or to the left or right of the breast bone 2x a day for first 3 days and then 1x a day for about 7-10 days.

Thank you - we actually found a vet that is going to show us how to give injections. He wants to put her on Baytril (sp?). We have separated the hens from the others. I'm just at a loss to solve the problem. I'm asking for help on ventilation on the chicken building threads.

I will print this out for us so I will have it in my notebook.

Thank you
April

If your coop is dusty mist it with water from the garden hose. Not a lot....just enough to keep the dust down. Tomorrow turn the bedding over and mist again. Just a little bit. You don't want to start growing mold or anything.
