I was checking on my chickens to put them up for the night and found one of my hens hiding in the corner. Her feathers were askew so I was concerned. Then I noticed that her ruffled feathers were attached to a flap of skin barely attached to her head.
She has no skin on her head from her comb to the start of her neck. There was surprisingly very little blood on her or around her. I used some peroxide on it to clean it and put on some antibiotic without "caine" in it. What else do I need to do? Do I need to cut off the skin or attach it back or? I'm really frazzled and shocked.
She's away from the flock in a big dog kennel right now so no one's picking on her. I know which roo it was, since he harasses her right before bed everynight and tomorrow he's going to the butcher block.
