I have some cochins who were sitting on easter egger (green) eggs and one chick hatched today. The hen tried to peck it to death but I got to it before it died. Its head is bloody and bald and its eyes are swollen shut. I put the chick under a heat lamp and it seems to be doing better, but just looks really bad. Should I try to save it, or am I just prolonging its misery? If I have to feed it with a dropper, how do I do that?

it could be fine. just wash the wound out with warm water. dry it nicely, cuddle it closely. put some antibiotic ointment on it(neosporin without pain medication) keep it warm, dip it's beak into water and into the feeder(that's what i do when their first come out of the incubator) it can't hurt to at least just dip it's beak in. i am not sure what else to do. but i figured i'd jump in and say something:)
