I just looked at a YouTube video so I could learn too and you have to squeeze a little above the vent. If foam comes out, it's a male, if not, it's a female, but that's for sexually active ones.

For feather sexing younger ones that aren't sexually active yet, here's a YouTube video on feather sexing jumbos.

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for getting in touch. They’re not sexually active yet only 5 and a bit weeks so foam test won’t work. Their feathers on their breast look identical to the rest of their body so I’m having a real hard time figuring it out.

It's really hard to vent sex quail. I have tried on quail that I have freshly killed for butchering and I still can't tell even after knowing what sex they are from butchering.
Looks like you got some non feather sexable colors so you will probably just have to wait and see. How many do you have total?

I’ve got 9 total I have tried vent sexing and have come up with 7 male 2 female which doesn’t seem right. The 2 I suspected as female are about half the size as the rest.

Males are usually the smaller ones, almost always.

Omg really? Im at a loss then. I need to figure out the sex asap because they are outgrowing the brooder box and I can’t sell any of them to make space until I know the sex. None of them a crowing and all their feathers are the same all over

Yes really, lol. Sorry I can't help you more.
I always recommend that everyone get feather sexable quail no matter what. I've been raising and butchering quail for years now and I still can't vent sex them.
