Hi, so I'm new here but I've been coming to this site regularly to try to sex my chicks on my own. Now I'd like to see what people think. (WARNING: Lots of pictures :) )

I have nine seven week old chicks:
#1 Olive egger (wheaten maran and crested cream legbar)

We're thinking a cockerel because of his huge comb and red wattles. He also acts in the way our wheaten maran rooster did; very showy and upright.

His comb from above

He has a pretty developed tail

#2 Blue laced red wyandotte (rose comb)

#3 Blue laced red wyandotte (single comb)

Both chicks look almost identical aside from their faces

Here is them both together

#4 Blue partridge brahma (lighter)

See the bald spots?

#5 Blue partridge brahma (the darker one)

This one isn't as friendly and doesn't like being held. It's always left behind

I read that only brahma pullets get the lacing on their wings and chest, whereas a cockerel would have a uniform colour. Is this true? Could it be that we have two for two pullets?

#6, #7, # 8 and # 9 Light sussex
It's hard to tell them apart, except for one whose name is Turbo Jack. We think he's a cockerel because of his short tail. He has black on his wings and is really friendly.
Here are various pictures of all of them:

See the tail difference?

None of their combs are very red and the ones with the shorter tails also have smaller combs. So just underdeveloped...?

I think this is Turbo Jack, but it's hard to tell in the picture

The largest chick, which we think is a hen, also used to stand very upright. But I know that dominant hens can act this way.
They all spar now (which is normal for both genders) and are all very friendly.
Finally, I just thought this was cute:

Thanks for any advice :)

I am no expert but here are my opinions on my experience ^^

1. Roo
2. Leaning To Roo/Unsure
3. Leaning to Roo/Unsure
4. No Idea!
5. No Idea!
Turbo Jack does seem rooster-ish with the short tail.
And that last image is adorable ^^

Thank you! This is pretty much exactly what we've been thinking. I'm hoping though that we have at least one blue laced red wyandotte hen, because we can't keep roosters. And thank you, I thought so too. :D

1-cockerel

Last pic- the firs pullet.
Next time give any pic a number it will be much easier!

Thanks! It's sad about all the roosters, but who knows? Maybe they'll morph into hens later on (kidding.) Yes, you're right about numbering the photos. I'll definitely do that next time.

Yes, of course. It's too early to tell for sure. You don't know until they crow, and even then, some hens crow apparently. So I'll wait for eggs!
