Hey everyone! Hoping for some help here. I picked up some Salmon Faverolles last week from Tractor Supply and I would love some opinions on their gender. I did some research and found that they can be sexed pretty young, and I have my suspicions, but I'd love to hear from people more experienced. These guys are getting close to 2 weeks old.

Oh I hope not! Lol that would be my luck. My last batch of straight run chicks was 5 RIR and 5 BR. All of the BR ended up being roos. One RIR was a roo, too.

I will say though, only one of the SF chicks actually has black feathers. It's the very last one pictured. The others are brown. The black feathered one has shorter wing feathers too.

HA! I know all about bad luck. I have 11 roosters in an 18 bird flock. Four of six my straight run Silkies are boys. Of the eight SF I ordered only four are girls. They were all supposed to be girls. The Faverolles that had any black on them ended up being boys. The girls have darkened up and have some black on them now.

Here's the best group shot I have of them as days old.

The one at the top of this photos is a girl - thought she was going to be a he because she feathered out faster. The one looking at the camera and the one to the left are boys.

Here's how their feathering/coloring progressed.

Lol that's how it goes! After I got the straight run RIR and BR I got nervous they were all going to end up being roosters so I went back and bought 6 sex linked pullets so I would at least get some eggs eventually lol.

This is a group shot of all of mine. The lighting is bad I know. I need to take them outside later today and try to get some better pictures. The one at the very top is the only one that actually has black feathers.

At this point I would say 4 or all 5 are pullets. The one with some black primaries could be a pullet or a light cockerel. You can definitely tell when they start to get chest and/or leg feathers.

That's what I was wanting to hear! Lol I originally thought I had 3 pullets and 2 cockerels, but over the last few days the one I was iffy about has ended up looking just like ones I thought were pullets.

Found this - I think I took it the day they came in the mail. I'll see if I can dig up some better photos tonight after work.

The one sitting in the cover/dish was the only one that had obvious black.

Well I hope I have better luck with getting girls out of this batch than I did with my first. At least SF roos are beautiful! If I end up with any I'll be keeping one.

Top one is likely a cockerel but I'm also suspicious of the one on the right with its head out of the photo. It's just a bit early to be sure. As soon as the chest feathers start, it should be obvious.
