My BO baby ate my earring. She loves sparkly things and in one fast peck she pulled out my 'diamond' stud earring and swallowed it. I'm so worried about the sharp little post and 'diamond' hurting her. She ate it last night and I tossed and turned all night thinking about internal bleeding and other problems that could arise from this. This morning she looked fine, normal~ but I worry. Is there anything I can do?

I had a girl steal and swallow a post type earring (not a diamond thankfully!). I worried about the same thing as you are, however, the pullet was fine and I never saw the earring again.

I worry about my girls, too - they keep eyeballing my earrings, so I try to keep them away from my ears! Buff Hooligans - if you DID see the earring again, would you wear it?

I hope your chickie is OK and passes the earring without incident.

Hmmmm, if it were a diamond, yes. (I have only had one in my whole life.)

But a cheapo earring? Maaaaaybe not !!!!!

I had a pullet take the earring out of my four-year old daughte's ear. I haven't noticed anything wrong with her since, so I don't think it will hurt her. if you really, and I mean really

, want the earring back, I would confine her for a few days and check for it. If it was an expensive earring, it might be worth the effort.

Many years ago our daughter's pet chicken, 'Florence' snapped off one of the expensive pearl earrings D was wearing (gift from her grandmother and her only 'real' jewelry)

Florence never showed any illness (or remorse!) -- from then on the chicken was known as 'Florence Pearl' and she lived to be 12 years old -- maybe eating an occasional pearl is good for a hen!

Sure makes me feel better to hear that other chickens have lived through earring digestion. I probably will keep an eye out to make sure the earring has cleared her system, but as for wearing it again... I don't know. Sounds a little gross.
