The Chook's Coop
Hi,

This morning I went out to let the chooks free range. I noticed one of my older chicks (who is now I think around 13 weeks old) walked out of the coop hunched over and fluffed up! He was perfectly fine last night when I put him away. I have 2 ideas what he might have,
Coccidios, and Impacted Crop. His crop is squishy even though there isn't much in it and he has also been showing symptons of coccodios. I might be able to send some photos later today. I vurrently have him in a cardboard box with a heatpad underneath him. So my question how can I tell if it is impacted crop or coccodios? thanks in advance.

It can be common for the crop to become sluggish during a bout of coccidiosis. Can you get some Corid (amprollium, Ampromed) right away to start treatment? It is in the cattle medicines at feed stores. Dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid Corid, or 1.5 tsp of the powder Corid , per gallon of water, changed daily, for 5-7 days. Treat all birds at the same time (and it won't hurt anyone.) After finsihing Corid, give some poultry vitamins and a bit of plain yogurt for probiotics for several days to help the gut recover.
