HELP! OK, I have 9 silkie chicks that are about one to two weeks and one of them is acting really sleepy and lethargic. I have been giving her a little sugar water and the heat is the right temp. in the brooder. She doesnt seem to be pecking at the food. She kind of stands off to the side by herself with her head hanging low like she is trying to sleep (you know how they do...) She just pooed and it is yellow and kind of runny. PLEASE does ANYONE have any suggestions or help!? Thanks, hope you can help.

PS she doesnt have pasty-butt either.

Try some polyvisol - in the baby aisle at the grocery store. If that doesn't work, it sounds like failure to thrive and it may be best to cull the poor thing before it suffers more.

Make sure it's the poly-vi-sol without iron. Good luck!!

ETA - Might also stop putting sugar in the water. Usually you only want to do that for the first day or so.

OK, any other sugestions? (I'll see if I can get someone to run out and get that for me) But what if that isnt the problem?

You could try giving her a scrambled egg...see if she's interested in that. If she isn't eating, that in itself could be the problem. Have you seen her drinking?

How long have you had them?

She has been eating, drinking, jumping etc just like the other chicks until this morning, she started acting sleepy. I didnt think much of it until it became evening and I saw no change. BTW her poo has gone from yellow to green and yellowish.... is that good, bad or neutral?
