Dominique pullet is showing symptoms of illness today. She was very lethargic. Falling asleep standing up all day. She was isolating herself from the group and huddling in corners all day. Her tail feathers are fulfed like she is trying to pass something. Tonight I found her outside the coop by herself roosting on the roof. Her poop is very liouidous with white streaks in it. I'll watch her for food and water consumption in the morning. She is just about 20 weeks old. Eating medicated starter feed with access to oyster shell. I introduced scratch feed this week thinking the flock would enjoy it but now I'm worried it's making he Dominique sick. What should I do!!

I had a hen who acted like that and she had an impacted craw that didn't move and had gone sour. I messaged it for a while and all of a sudden all this fermented brown liquid came out, probably a cupful altogether! After that she was much improved and totally fine in 24 hours or less and eating. She was still loose for a couple weeks, but was alert, eating and drinking. It can also be an egg that is stuck, or broken inside. Still not sure what's to be done about that.

If her craw is packed and not moving thru (just had this problem this week with a 4 mos. old hen) mineral oil can be given with an eye dropper one dose at a time while gently massaging the crop. It worked and now she is fine.
