Hurt or sick baby duck - guidance would be appreciated. 2 hatchEd on Tuesday and that night we moved them into a brooder. Wednesday and Thursday everything was going well. Friday - today, I had been gone most of the day. We decided to clean the brooder for the first time tonight. While doing so son accidentally dropped the duck from 2-3 feet up. I kept an eye on the little guy as the night ....continued in comments

At first he was still moving around and chirping, but I noticed he wasn’t eating and that he was “smaller than the other duck. As the night progressed he slowly stopped moving around is holding his neck into his body and his chirp is very small. He hasn’t been eating or drinking. And his down looks a little fluffed. I wasn’t sure if he got hurt from the fall, if his water had been contaminated from poop, or if it’s a niacin deficiency as we have not been able to put any in the chick feed we gave them. Obviously new to all this any help would be so appreciated.
Middle of the night we went and got niacin last night I tried to feed him some with some sugar water wouldn’t eat or drink and now the other one has been acting a little funny although he is eating and drinking and just went crazy over the niacin/sugar water. How much niacin do I put in the water and food?

I don’t think it was the fall. I had a duckling crawl out of my hands and fall down onto the tile. I’m 5’8. Granted she was a little older than yours but still. Also this is bad but my ducklings dirty their water and when I clean it there’s almost always poop in it. I’ve never had an issue with poop in the water. This is probably an illness of some kind especially if the other started acting weird. Odd question. Have you given them bread? Sometimes if you give bread too young it can clog up their systems. I lost two Araucana chicks to that. Unfortunately, I don’t have much experience with sicknesses just injuries. Sugar and electrolytes are good. Try forcing them to drink my dipping their beaks in the water. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help. :(

I'm a bit concerned that it was 3 days until you cleaned their brooder for the first time. Even with 2 ducklings it must have been pretty nasty by then!

What about their water? Are they climbing in their water dish? If so that is really bad. Can you post a picture of your brooder please?
