It would be interesting to know why your father thinks that will help. Does he have a reason or is that just something he heard? A lot lot times things can be taken out of context. In certain circumstances something might help, but in other circumstances, not really. For what it's worth I have seen that on here before but I don't know the "why" behind it.
If the air cell is underdeveloped I could see where that might give the chick a bit of a better chance. It could see where it might potentially cause harm, say it let bacteria inside the egg. I don't know if there is a specific reason he suggests that for this hatch. But I'm in the school of "If it's not broken, don't fix it". I find the more I interfere the more harm I do. If I have a specific problem I'll address it but otherwise it is hands off. Especially that late in lockdown I keep hands off.
