Puppy is a stray so I'm guessing she's about 3 months old. She's a good dog. We have no idea what breed she is, but we've seen her mother (lives down the road) and she's small dog, her head come to a little above my knee. We have no idea about the daddy; however, she has slick black hair, like a lab. The puppy (who my son named Kat) is getting my chickens!!! I don't want to get rid of her if I don't have to, but I will if I can't get her to stop. She's gotten at least 2 of my silkies, 1 red sex link, and 1 light braham!! These are the only carcasses we've found so we don't know if she's gotten more. My flock is allowed to free range over our 15 acres (they really stay on the 2 acres where the house is located). Any suggestions????? Is it too late???

I am so sorry. I know from what I have read on here serious training. Is there anyway you can keep the puppy away from the chickens. Only let the puppy around them when you are there to supervise. Keep them seperated. Good luck.

Get an Emu. That pup will "run for his life"

A fence and consistent training will do wonders. But I have to tell you, I have a Lab mix. And he is NOT good with chickens.

When the pup is out, so is a human who keeps an eye and leash on pup at all times. NO exceptions ever. Not oh I just had to run into the house for a second - oh just had to grab the phone - oh just forgot to put the mail out - no exceptions the pup stays with the human.

When the pup shows interest in the birds, reinforce her with a "no - leave it." Or whatever training you are using.

We have four dogs - three are wonderful with the chickens/ducks/geese - one is a killer - he will take down ANYTHING under 250 pounds. The killer is NEVER, never, ever allowed outside on his own - he is 10 years old.

I have a lab mix and he is a chicken killer. My options were either get rid of the dog or pen up my birds. I tried to train him and that resulted in him trying to kill the birds when I wasn't looking. Anyhow my birds have a nice safe enclosure and I don't have to worry about my dog or anything else getting them.

I have a lab mix that has killed two of my chickens when they got out of their pen. I think some dogs will just follow their instincts no matter what. You just have to keep them separate.

I will never trust my dogs around my chickens.
