A lot of good advice already but I might mention the use of an electric-shock dog training collar. Collar on dog's neck, control in your hand and when he chases after a chicken you zap him good and he may just get the message that it hurts to be after one of those feathered critters! Dogs can be trained after they start killing chickens but it really does depend on the dog- some just never seem to learn and can never be trusted around any type of fowl. I guess the bottom line is being able to keep them separate or make the decision which is more valuable on your farm.
