help! structure/landscape to minimize the noise?

Well after more research, I found out that they usually keep quiet if they are free range, so despite all the poop everywhere I think I'd rather deal with poop than upset neighbors... I'm not worried about predators because my loyal doberman guards them. I was just sick of hearing my leghorn (her mostly) bawking and clucking super loud constantly (probably complaining out of boredom). Now that I have them out I haven't heard a cluck, or bawk from any of them. They were free range at one time until we built the coop - I'm thinking they might just be bored, plus 2 of them are now laying and the others should start laying this month, so it must be their hormones or whatever. Now I just need to find a new home for my handsome polish roo

As I just got done writing this, a couple other chickens were making more noise than the leghorn

Proactive is definately the way to go! You never know, some city people are THRILLED to have some country / natural sounds in their mornings. You may even say something like, "Hearing the chickens in the morning is like relaxing music to me, but I am concerned that they may be disturbing your peace."

If you have any indications such as the sounds of your chickens are directly followed by the starting of a lawn mower - on Sunday morning - then you may have cause for worry.

Are you sure you are not sharing any odors? I imagine that is of MUCH greater concern.

People are afraid of that about which they are ignorant. Fear breeds hatred. By all means, open up about your hobby, spark some interest and share some eggs (if you have them).

I make darn sure my coop and run are clean. If animal control were to ever stop by for a surprise visit I would think it would lessen the chances of having them seized and left with a warning. We usually wait until late morning to mow the lawn or late afternoon - it just depends if the grass is moist. Most everyone is at church or out shopping by then (if it's a Sunday).
I would like to eventually go around to the houses in the neighborhood (we live on a small loop off a busy road) and drop off eggs just to cover a broader area. I'm sure they can be heard far away.

I've entertained the idea of putting them in the garage (I did temporarily for the hurricane and they did just fine, their noises didn't echo throughout the sky) but I would need a man's point of view of doing that. I'm sure a man's gotta have his garage or "man cave", free of any wife - I may have to start another thread though
