I've had no big problem until the last 2 days. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I have thousands all over the ground inside the run, all around the perimeter, and some thick black clouds of them in the air. The only thing I've done differently is putting the ACV in the water last weekend. Could this be the attractant as they are mostly on the ground until disturbed? What do I do???

We are having the same problem over the last couple of days with mosquitoes. They almost look like love bugs because there are so many hanging around in the air! Whenever I open the door, at least a half-dozen come in.

Have you tried DE in your run and coop to keep the flies down?

I have put DE down everywhere, but maybe not enough?? I'll be laying it on heavy today as we are not expecting any rain for a few days.

Doesn't take much DE to handle this....if the DE is going to take care of it. Might be just nature manifesting itself at the moment.

For flies, do the water in a hanging ziplok bag trick.

ETA - Mosquitoes do not like vanilla at all. Hang some of that around your door area and see if it helps. When they are bad, I spread a couple of drops on my arms, put a little on a paper towel and stick it under my shirt collar on the back of my neck. They don't come near me. I use natural vanilla but I suspect processed works too.

The vanilla car fresheners - Little Trees - they work good as well! I hang a couple in the run and it seems to help.
Sounds like it might be a spring hatch of flies and hopefully it will mellow out soon.

To answer the original question. I do think vinegar will attract flies. I use it in fly traps. Seems to work.

I can't recall where I read about it, but a product called "Big Stinky Fly Trap" seemed to have an interesting way of trapping them. Spoiled meat. I've never tried it, and am not sure I will, but it's worth a mention. I'm sure you can google it.
