HELP! Tick on my 6 week old chick!

While petting one of my chicks I happened to see something dark brown, flat, and spider-like crawling around it. Tick - no doubt about it. I hate those things very much....HOW do I get rid of it? I was thinking DE? It's Florida....so I'm not surprised about finding one on my chicks. I need a cure NOW, I can't stand knowing there's a tick on one of my poor chickens....

Ugh! I hate ticks too. I hope you got rid of the tick...flushed it down the toilet or something. I suppose you can put DE on your chicks,be careful not to get it in their eyes. Older chickens would eat a tick. You might want to dust (DE) the ground or pen prior to dusting your chicks, that would be the source of the ticks where they're coming from...include dusting bushes in or around your pen also. I dont recommend chemical usage to get rid of them neither.

Remove the tick and stick it to a piece of scotch tape and fold the tape over the tick and throw it in the trash.
