Hello i have about a six+ month turkey. He is a meat bird but we didnt know that getting him. pure white (sorry i dont know breed names). Today out of nowhere he just stops walking stands still, i can see somewhat his head shakes and one side droops. he refuses to move/walk. this happened ONCE before and then he was fine and now its out of the blue happening again. Does anyone know what this could be? is it some type of infection or disease? is it maybe his heart because he's a meat turkey and he's a big boy.. please help because he is our pet, he can normally walk around fine sometimes stumbles over things in the yard. but he is usually eating/drinking just fine. we do not intend to use him as meat. We are letting him live his life as much as he can.

Thanks in advance.

It could be deformities and heart problems. Those are common in meat birds.

I was curious about this outcome. I also have a BBW tom, who is almost 3 years old. Despite the projected short lifespan his health has been excellent. But yesterday he seemed like he had a stroke. His balance is bad, he walks in a circle, one wing droops and he tends to zone out and stare off into space. His neck is withdrawn and leans to one side. Researching stroke in turkeys has not gotten me far.

I've had that happen with my meat turkeys. I think it's heart related. Is it cold where you are?
Sometimes they react strangely to the cold.

We are around freezing at night and in the 60s during the day. He's never struggled in the cold and we had snow a couple weeks ago.
